As Southern California residents, we are becoming "smarter", adapting our gardens to the changing drier climate.
"Smart" design incorporates more than just being water-wise. How a space will be used is first and foremost, then secondly how it will be maintained. This is among the first questions I ask the client. Eliminating unused turf and replacing at least 50% with California natives, meadow or a mixture with water conscious succulents is a good place to start. While native gardens create an inviting environment for habitat and wildlife, they also require a special kind of maintenance, education and watering schedule. Our firm creates gardens that are unique to each client’s wishes & lifestyle, while encouraging the most sustainable designs.
“Perhaps the most gratifying part of my role as a landscape architect is to imagine the opportunities a space has, explore which ones fit within the clients’ goals, then orchestrate the transformation.”
